The Perfect Golf Swing Takeaway Drill – Danny Maude helped a recent student hit their driver straight and gain 20 yards with a simple change to their golf takeaway.

The purpose of a great backswing drill is to put you in a position at the top of the golf swing that makes it super easy to come down at strike the ball effortlessly.

Danny’s student was unable to hit driver straight because he took the takeaway inside and had to make compensations in the downswing. This cost him power and accuracy.

Danny Maude’s latest drill ensured that Craig got the first move right in the golf swing and as a result hit driver straight.

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website ( I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Sheila MacLeod says:

I tried this yesterday and was amazed at the straightness and length I was getting. I am so quilty of turning my hands too quickly. Thank you Dan

Clintoniumer says:

Danny, from your videos alone you’ve changed my game. I’ve watched countless videos and couldn’t quote piece it all together. Went from a slice to more of a draw with some fades in there. No more hard slices. Can’t believe the whole time my swing went wrong was within the first second. Last two days at the range have been fun. Watching a ball path completely different than what I’m used to is great.

Joseph DeSimone says:

Great lesson, I am working on this with my coach tomorrow!

Rich Beresford says:

Great content, great drills, great vibe and great enthusiasm. Thanks for all the hard work Danny, the last two vids have really resonated with me.

Brian Wood says:

Brilliant simpkevtips asxalways Danny. When I di this I can play to single figures, when I revert to a 30 year inside move I literally go up 6 -8 shots! This really works. Just wish I could do it all the time. Thanks Danny.

dennis bean says:

When I do this correctly, I am hitting my driver much further. I always thought of the Swing as a turn but you explain the pivot motion very well. Thanks for the lesson

passkat says:

Great video… Why couldn't we start the golf swing from the first position check of the back swing? I'm no golf coach but I believe most of all faults are caused from poor takeaway especially the first foot or so. This is my fault. When I time it i hit bombs but most of the time it's pulls or massive blocks.

ZenSheng Tan says:

I know we dont want to rotate the wrist on the backswing. But when I try to hinge my hand, why am I feeling like my armpit is not connected to my body, therefore it came the disconnection into my swing…

christopher hall says:

Hi Danny,
When I try your tip, with the stick against my side, the golf club shaft seems to be very much leaning forward.
My hands are very near my left knee.
Is this correct?
A face on view of these tips would help.

William Buzinski says:

Great lesson. I have always rolled my wrist. I am pretty consisted but know I am not getting distance i should. I recently videotaped myself and saw the "roll." I am going to the range today to practice. Thanks Danny

Bob Keilitz says:

Simple concepts, easy to understand! Thank you!

Richard Von Minden says:

Great drill! Helped me very much! Thank you!!!!

Mark Evans says:

Terry Matsufuji says:
