Worst video I’ve ever seen.. wants you to hit 4 inches behind the ball
There seems to be a contradiction between the idea of a long shallow divot and making contact with the ball first.
As a self taught golfer, this is the kind of shot technique I've been imagining, but half the time I end up taking out a chunk of turf first and ruining my shot. Especially with my longer irons. What's the deal?
I just went outside and tried it. It didn't work. Actually I think I just heard someone scream.

Great video. I hit my best iron shots when I focus on the back of the ball and follow through low to the ground to take a long shallow divot. I also make sure my hands are leading into impact and my grip is very light.
Maybe understanding the concept of the iron would be more beneficial? The design of the club, how to strike ball first using that design, etc….
